Give the page one job

Write a one-page website brief and content wireframe for a fictional service business.

A one-page website service is easiest to explain when the page has a specific job. Help a visitor request the right repair is clearer than build a beautiful website. Write the visitor, their question and the next action before deciding on colours or software.

For an invented bicycle repair business, the visitor may need to know whether their everyday bike can be serviced nearby. They need the services offered, the area served, what to provide with an inquiry and how the business responds. A photograph or review is useful only if it is real, permitted and relevant. Practice copy can explain the work without inventing customer praise.

Create five content blocks: What we do, Who and where we serve, What is included, A useful example and Request information. Give each block a heading that says what it contains. Use one main page title and logical section headings so readers can scan and navigate. A sentence like Repairs for everyday riders is followed by the actual repairs and service area, not another slogan.

The inquiry block should ask for only what is needed to begin the conversation. In this exercise, write the proposed field labels and the confirmation message on paper. Do not create a working form or collect personal information. A real form later needs working labels, validation, privacy information, error states and an agreed recipient.

Finish by listing what the client must supply: accurate services, contact method, area, approved wording and assets. Separate page delivery from domain, hosting, ongoing edits and a promise of leads. The first lesson is a content brief, not a finished or published website.

Worked example

Fictional example: Cedar Bike Repair wants a page for everyday bicycle owners in its invented service area. The main action is Request a repair estimate. The brief lists puncture repair and brake adjustment, with final suitability and price confirmed by the owner.

The practice wireframe contains five headings, a description of one repair process and draft inquiry labels. It contains no fake review, working booking form or ranking promise. The business and service area are invented.

Your exercise

1. Choose an invented local service business.
2. Write Visitor, Main question and Next action.
3. Draft the five content blocks with descriptive headings.
4. List the information the client must confirm.
5. Draft the inquiry labels and a confirmation message on paper.
6. Write Included, Excluded and Still unknown for the proposed page service.

Your finished work

A one-page content wireframe, a client-input checklist and a draft service boundary.

Check your work

  • The page has a defined visitor and main action.
  • Headings identify the content that follows.
  • Services and claims are identified as fictional practice material.
  • Client inputs and unresolved facts are listed.
  • Hosting and ongoing edits are scoped separately.
  • No live form, domain purchase or publication is required to complete the lesson.
